أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ
Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you
أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُDiverts you
ٱلتَّكَاثُرُthe competition to increase
Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Which was revealed in Makkah

﴿ بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ﴾

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

﴿ أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ • حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ • كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ • ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ • كَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ • لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ • ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّہَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ • ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴾

(1. The mutual increase diverts you,) (2. Until you visit the graves.) (3. Nay! You shall come to know!) (4. Again nay! You shall come to know!) (4. Again nay! You shall come to know!) (5. Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge.) (6. Verily, you shall see the blazing Fire!) (7. And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight!) (8. Then on that Day you shall be asked about the delights!)

حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ
Until you visit the graveyards.
حَتَّىٰUntil
زُرۡتُمُyou visit
ٱلۡمَقَابِرَthe graves.

Which was revealed in Makkah

﴿ بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ﴾

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

﴿ أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ • حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ • كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ • ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ • كَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ • لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ • ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّہَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ • ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴾

كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ
No! You are going to know.
كَلَّاNay!
سَوۡفَSoon
تَعۡلَمُونَyou will know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Then no! You are going to know.
ثُمَّThen,
كَلَّاnay!
سَوۡفَSoon
تَعۡلَمُونَyou will know.

كَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty…
كَلَّاNay!
لَوۡIf
تَعۡلَمُونَyou know
عِلۡمَ(with) a knowledge
ٱلۡيَقِينِ(of) certainty.

لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ
You will surely see the Hellfire.
لَتَرَوُنَّSurely you will see
ٱلۡجَحِيمَthe Hellfire.

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّہَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.
ثُمَّThen
لَتَرَوُنَّہَاsurely you will see it
عَيۡنَ(with the) eye
ٱلۡيَقِينِ(of) certainty.

ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
ثُمَّThen,
لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّsurely you will be asked
يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍthat Day
عَنِabout
ٱلنَّعِيمِthe pleasures.
